Are we killing off the very soil we live on?

A recent survey in the states found that not only were organically grown strawberries healthier and more tasteful than ones force-fed with chemicals/pesticides--but the soil itself was healthier and contained more bacteria and insect life. I do believe that man is killing off the nutritious soil as more and more chemicals are being sprayed on it -year on year.
